Hamilton-Sundstrand Customer Profile
Hamilton-Sundstrand, a division of United
Technologies is a manufacturer of motors and compressors for large
OEM clients in the automotive and areospace industry.
Based in Pleasant Prairie, WI, H-S is an early adopter of lean manufacturing
practices who is always looking to remove business processes that do not add
value to their business.
This has enabled them to continue
to grow without adding head count or physical space.
Business Problem
In a lean manufacturing environment each department,
group and manufacturing cell is dependent on the other for timely,
accurate information flow. The only practical way to manage all
the data entry and validation required was to deploy a real-time
bar code data collection system. H-S looked to eNSYNC solutions
as a turnkey provider for hardware, software and services to deliver
a complete system.
Solution Delivered
eNSYNC consultants working with their “out-of-the-box” bar
code solution for IFS' ScanWorks™,
conducted a site survey and requirements gathering exercise on
ScanWorks™ and recommended starting with several initial
transactions from the 30+ pre-built standard ScanWorks™ transactions.
In addition to several standard transactions, HS required support for reserving
and shipping Supplier Material, a critical part of material flow in manufacturing
due to the aerospace customer-based serialized parts control and recording, a
significant task which was streamlined and improved dramatically with bar coding.
HS also had several printing requirements, which required the use
of ScanWorks™ integrated label printing application and
the “Change
Printer” transaction to allow labels to be printed at various
locations.
In addition to the special Supplier Material
Transaction, the following ScanWorks™ Transactions for
IFS Applications Version 2001 were delivered:
- PO Receipt
- Reserve Supplier Material
- Ship Supplier Material
- Receive to Shop Order
- Reserve Serial Numbers
- Change Printer
- Purchase Order Create
- RMA Receipt
- Shop Order Create
- Part/Location Inquiry
- Picking
- Cycle Count (Count per Count Report
eNSYNC Solutions worked with HS to specify
the Intermec hand held RF equipment and to take advantage of some
existing printers. ScanWorks™ is hardware independent.
Project Deliverables:
Wireless RF Scanning for:
-5 MobileWork Users
- Intermec 2435 Handhelds
-12 TransWorks Transactions
- Supplier Material Transaction
-IFS version 2001
Benefits Received
Previously personnel had to manually record
Part numbers and Serial numbers on paper then go to a desk to key
in all movements after the fact. Today inventory and WIP is maintained
at its highest degree of accuracy while clerical work has been
vastly reduced. Efficiencies gained from ScanWorks™ has
allowed for greater growth without additional personnel.
Customer Feedback
“eNSYNC Solutions was the best choice
for us because they had the complete solution already developed
and working at several other IFS site. This reduced our project
risk by not having to custom develop software”. – Claudette
Stears, Materials Manager.
