CII Carbon Hit by Hurricane Katrina. CII is back in business after corporate site fails!

Hurricane Katrina forced CII to evacuate their New Orleans area corporate office. Their backup generator worked perfectly, until it ran out of gas 12 hours later. The UPS systems worked flawlessly until the batteries drained. When the storm passed it was clear that CII would not be returning to business as normal at their main office. While employees were being directed to an alternate company site located further inland, their Oracle standby database was ready and waiting for activation. Within minutes, CII was able to have a viable production database up and running. Their business information was safe and intact ready to continue business.

Don’t get caught with your database down! The cost to setup and maintain a standby database is minimal compared to the cost if your business can’t invoice customers, pay invoices, or ship products.

Kansas City’s 2004 Small Business of the Year, LaserCycle powers ahead with IFS Applications & eNSYNC Solutions

When eNSYNC Solutions president, Roger Resley, first met with LaserCycle, CEO, Rick Krska, in October 2002 hopes of a potential IFS software license sale appeared slim. Fast growing printer cartridge re-manufacturer, LaserCycle was just days away from signing a contract for a different ERP system. But Rick listened as Roger explained perhaps the ERP worlds’ best kept secret for growth companies like LaserCycle, IFS Applications. Rick had not heard of IFS but was intrigued by the technology and bredth/depth of functionality compared to all the other packages they had evaluated.

No promises were made other than to allow eNSYNC an opportunity to show the product to the LaserCycle selection committee headed by CFO, Cathy Lynch.  Having just completed an exhaustive search over the past nine months, the committee was not exactly warm to the idea of yet another vendor evaluation.  The “cool” reception quickly warmed once the team saw the product and realized they really could have all the functionality required to drive their complex manufacturing business without extensive modifications that other products would have required.

“We chose IFS Applications™ because it provides all the functionality we need right out of the box-without expensive customizations," said Cathy Lynch, Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Administration at LaserCycle. "We were at the point where our current systems could not provide us with the functionality to support our growing business. IFS' suite of applications not only is well integrated, but it's also easy to add components as our needs grow."

Cathy added, “Until Roger found us, we didn’t realize we could afford a tier 1 solution with a local implementation partner. With IFS and eNSYNC we found both and are sure glad we did.”  The growth LaserCycle has enjoyed over the past two years would not have been possible in part with out the benefits of the total solution eNSYNC has delivered.  In 2003 sales were $28 Million, with 2004 sales more than $50 Million and 2005 sales on a similar growth track.

LaserCycle’s success has been well recognized. The Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce selected LaserCycle as its 2004 Small Business of the Year. To compete for this award, LaserCycle had to maintain or increase sales and number of employees, show a commitment to good business practices, have outstanding employee relations, and demonstrate a commitment to community service.

“eNSYNC brought our new IFS business system “live” in September 2003. This was an incredible accomplishment in just nine months given our limited resources and fast-paced growth.  Without IFS Applications, it would have been very difficult to execute our good business practices which helped us win this distinguished award.” explained Rick Krska, founder and president of LaserCycle.

eNSYNC is currently upgrading LaserCycle to IFS version 2004. In addition to full implementation support for CRM, financial, manufacturing, distribution,  and service management, several other key features were added to the system. LaserCycle uses e-Store for retail sales, Credit Card processing on-line with Payfuse integration, and Vertex integration for retail transactions requiring complex retail taxes. eNSYNC’s development group supplied all integration services, taking full advantage of IFS’s component based architecture.

Also working for LaserCycle within the IFS Suite is ScanWorks™ for bar code data collection and ALS Works™ for warehouse management and transportation management.

“We are very proud of LaserCycle’s accomplishments and proud to be a valued business partner with such a great company” says eNSYNC president Roger Resley. “When I think back to that first sales call, I shudder to think what might not have been. It’s been so rewarding to represent a great product like IFS and to help a good company achieve great things.”

About LaserCycle

In 1992, as the Cold War was coming to an end and the defense industry in the United States was pulling back the reins, Rick Krska was looking to open a new chapter in his book of entrepreneurial endeavors. Rick had owned and operated numerous enterprises over the years, always giving way to bigger and better opportunities. After fourteen years of service in management with AlliedSignal Aerospace, Rick took his knowledge of technical production processes and put them to use in learning the remanufacturing industry. Thus, LaserCycle, Inc. was born, offering a cost-effective and environmentally safe alternative to costly OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) cartridges.

In the months to follow, Rick engaged the help and support of several of his colleagues who were also being relieved from their duties at AlliedSignal. Selling by day and building cartridges by night became the norm as the Company was established, all running from a small work bench in the basement of Mr. Krska's home. Today the company inhabits over 42,000 square feet of office and manufacturing space and employs more than 250 people.

As the business evolved, Mr. Krska realized that the emergence of inkjet printers to the market, at significantly lower cost than laser printers, would provide yet further opportunity to expand their product line. By 1997, InkCycle, a division of LaserCycle, had emerged and today is the largest producer of remanufactured inkjet cartridges in the world. This has required a total commitment to research and development and the ability to design and build state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment to automate the production processes. LaserCycle and InkCycle have grown exponentially over the past several years due to a commitment to quality and customer service. Every cartridge is quality tested and carries the Certified Perfect Print® guarantee of 100% satisfaction.
