Emergency Service... eNSYNC to the rescue!

Who: Paradigm Packaging located in Carlstadt, NJ. IT contact is Curt Whitson.

Why: Paradigm Packaging called with an emergency situation on a Friday afternoon. Their existing Alpha server was having problems with a corrupted disk array. Their database and investment in critical business information was in danger of being lost. eNSYNC was able to quote the hardware, deliver and setup a new Compaq ProLiant server from start to finish in only a few days (we ordered the hardware on a Saturday!). The project included assembling the hardware, loading the operating system, an Oracle database engine, and moving over critical application files.

Paradigm Packaging realized that the dollar value they have invested in their database is quite large and to recreate it from backups would potentially take days or weeks. Add on top of that the need to continue processing transactions to fill customers orders and Paradigm Packaging came to the conclusion that setting up a new server was the smart alternative to loosing business.

What: The hardware was shipped on short notice and a consultant was flown to the client site to start the assembly process. All the required hardware arrived on time (some of it was early). The consultant had all the skills needed to setup the system from start to finish. Once the new system was up and running an export of the current Oracle database was transferred across the network and imported onto the new server. A few of the tables were corrupt, but we were able to pull the missing information from other backups and files. During this time the consultant also copied over critical application code. Without it the client would have lost all the money and effort put into customizing the application.

After the setup was completed a short testing phase began to verify the new setup. The eNSYNC consultant stressed the need for testing before cutover. We wouldn't want to take away the current production system until we had a viable alternative. After testing passed, the production database was exported and the new information was moved into the new production server.

In summary, the new server was much faster, more reliable, more redundant, and met the goals and needs of the client. Everyone knew what was expected from the very beginning and good communication between the client, consultant, and sales staff helped make the project a success.

When: The project was started on a Friday afternoon and the database was setup, configured, and tested by the next Thursday. As part of the project, the IT staff was trained on the use of the new server and was involved with hands on tasks in implementing the new server.
